This guide separates what is free from what is paid, using manufacturers' own support pages, and shows what to check before you buy a camera feeder with no monthly bill. Quick Answer Birdfy says its Feeder Metal/Espresso and Bamboo A are sold in an "AI Lifetime Free" version: buy it once and the AI bird recognition needs no activation or extra payments. The "AI by Subscription" version starts with a 7-day free trial and then costs money. Birdfy's Metal/Espresso model includes unlimited cloud storage with a 30-day retention period but does not support microSD cards. Buy the lifetime-free version, not the subscription version, and save clips you want to keep within 30 days. ## What you actually pay for Findings from Birdfy's support pages. We could not verify other brands' current terms from manufacturer pages, so we do not rank them here. Fee check 1 ### Three separate paid services Birdfy lists three cloud services on the Feeder Metal/Espresso: AI Bird Recognition, Collection Storage for keeping clips permanently, and Moment Video Recording for longer clips. AI recognition is the one the lifetime-free version bundles. Verified option ### Birdfy Feeder Metal/Espresso (AI Lifetime Free) Rust-resistant coated metal housing (passed a 48-hour salt spray test, per Birdfy). Choose the AI Lifetime Free version at checkout. Cloud storage only, with 30-day retention. Check which version a listing sells before you buy. Download the clips you want, or pay for Collection Storage. Alternative ### Feeder cameras with a microSD slot Birdfy's Metal/Espresso does not support microSD, but some other models record to a card you supply. We have not verified those brands' AI terms, so read the manufacturer's FAQ for any fee before buying.
